Why work with the Institute of Food Research

The Institute of Food Research is a leading research organisation and the only publicly funded UK research institute focused on the science of food and health. We deliver internationally-ranked fundamental, strategic and applied research benefitting UK and European industry, consumers, policymakers and regulatory agencies.

Our mission is to be an international leader; a leader in research that addresses the fundamental relationships between food and health, food and the gut and the sustainability of the food chain in order to further the production of safe, healthy foods. We want to collaborate with the best organisations and the best people so together we can achieve our mission - and yours.

Our cutting-edge science has attracted funding from nearly 50 sponsors, including the UK Government and research councils, the European Union, industry and charities.  As a result, our scientists and partners have access to state-of-the-art facilities. Specialised laboratories and technology platforms provide for microbial, cell biological, biochemical, chemical and molecular biological research.

We are co-located on the Norwich Research Park  in the east of England, with world-class partner institutes the John Innes Centre, the Sainsbury Laboratory and The Genome Analysis Centre and we enjoy close links with the University of East Anglia, and and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, a leading medical teaching centre for the NHS. With over 3,000 scientists working on the Norwich Research Park, working with us provides access to a broad science environment, conducive to cross-disciplinary research.

In summary, the Institute of Food Research brings to its partnerships a deep knowledge and expertise relevant to the full food chain from food to human health. We back it up with excellent science, experienced and respected scientists, up-to-date equipment, access to a broad range of social and natural science expertise and a team experienced in delivering multi-national, multi-disciplinary projects.

Our future…

Soon to be at the heart of the plant-food-health science cluster on the Norwich Research Park, the Quadram Institute will bring together research teams from the Institute of Food Research, University of East Anglia and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals’ gastrointestinal endoscopy facility.

To be housed in a new state-of-the-art building opening in 2018, the Quadram Institute seeks to provide a step-change in interdisciplinary food and health research, by bringing together diverse scientists, clinicians, technicians and medical doctors together under one roof.

The Quadram Institute is looking to build relationships with forward-thinking collaborators and investors and will work closely with the food, pharma and biomedical industries to develop solutions to worldwide challenges.
