National Collection of Yeast Cultures

My current post involves managing research activities associated with the UK National Collection of Yeast Cultures (NCYC) and leading its development as a BBSRC ‘National Capability’, delivering authenticated strains and high quality characterisation data to yeast researchers worldwide.

The NCYC is amongst the largest yeast collections in the world and provides a database, web portal and expertise in yeast identification and genomic characterisation.

Close links are maintained with both the academic research community and the industrial biotechnology sector worldwide.

In-house research focuses on exploration of yeast genomes in general and ribosomal DNA dynamics in particular. Biotechnological exploitation of yeast biodiversity in the IFR pilot scale biorefinery is also a key area.
