Dr Linda Harvey
Head of Scientific Support Unit
I manage the Human Nutrition Unit (HNU) at the Institute of Food Research. The HNU strives to support the advancement of nutrition research by facilitating the conduct of nutrition intervention studies in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
The HNU has operated for 20 years and has experience and expertise in undertaking human nutrition intervention studies. Studies are coordinated safely and efficiently in accordance with ICH-GCP (International Conference on Harmonisation-Good Clinical Practice), the Human Tissue Act 2004, and ISO9001.
I also chair the IFR’s Human Research Governance Committee (HRGC). The HRGC conducts the scientific peer review of all human studies undertaken by IFR prior to submission to a research ethics committee.

IFR recently celebrated its Heroes of Food Research – the volunteer participants in its dietary studies. Without these members of the public, we couldn’t carry out our research that is getting the very best evidence of the links between the food we eat and how it affects our health.more +
The HNU has a variable complement of registered general nurses coordinated by a full time senior research nurse, Aliçeon Blair.
Advice on clinical procedures and data is provided by the HNU medical advisor, a local GP with experience of funding and managing human research at a national level.
